Yeboah Leaps Over 25-Year-Old School Record

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois track and field teams completed a successful first day of the Illini Challenge on Friday (Jan. 26) where 925 fans in attendance saw a new school and UI Armory record.

Freshman Rose Yeboah shattered the high jump record in her win, 1.88m (6-2). The previous mark, 1.87m (6-1 1/2), set by Stacy Ann Grant in 1999 stood for 25 years. Additionally, Yeboah's mark ranks fifth in the nation.

Freshman Elizabeth Ndudi captured the long jump crown with a new UI Armory facility record, 6.41m (21-0 1/2). She knocked off Yvonne Mensah's previous UI Armory record that survived for 17 years, 6.30m (20-8), set back in 2007.

Senior Aiden Ouimet was on a mission from the very start of the day in the first half of his heptathlon; he currently resides in second place with 3,373 points. He began by sprinting sub-seven-seconds in the 60m for the first time in his career (6.97). He followed that up with a near top-10 program mark in the long jump, 7.44m (24-5), and hopped a new personal-best in the high jump, 2.02m (6-7 1/2). Prior to the high jump he placed fourth in the shot put, 14.15m (46-5 1/4).

Junior Jessica McDowell sped to gold in the 600m dash clocking in at 1:29.83 which is the program's fourth-fastest time. Junior Jackson Marseille won the high jump with the program's fifth-highest leap, 2.14m (7-0 1/4). Junior Daniel Mboyo topped the long jump podium and now ranks eighth all-time in the Illinois record book, 7.62m (25-0).

Graduate student Amber Simpson collected her second straight weight throw win of the indoor season, 21.84m (71-8). Senior Tyler Sudduth followed suit with Simpson winning his second straight weight throw and third total on the season, 22.82m (74-10 1/2).

The Fighting Illini track and field teams are back in action tomorrow, Jan. 27, for the final day of the Illini Challenge beginning at 10:30 a.m. CT.
