Illini Track and Field Athletes Notch Seven Top-10 Program Marks on Second Day of Wake Forest and Tom Jones Memorial Invites

GAINESVILLE, Fla. // Winston-Salem, N.C. – The men's and women's track and field teams finished the second day of the Wake Forest Invitational and Tom Jones Memorial Invitational on Friday (April 17) where seven new top-10 program marks were recorded.

In Gainesville, JaiCieonna Gero-Holt and Meagan Humphries dominated the field in the heptathlon finishing first and second, respectively. Gero-Holt scored 5,870 points which is the second most in school history and Humphries scored 5,847 points the fourth most in program history. Additionally, their scores are the second and third highest scores in the nation so far which punches both of their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Gero-Holt's highest finish of the day was in the javelin where she placed second on the program's ninth-best throw of 39.56m (129-9). Humphries claimed the event title in the long jump where she also leapt the program's ninth-best mark at 6.27m (20-7).

Jacob Cookinham threw the program's fourth-best shot put of 19.00m (62-4) which also resides inside the top-15 in the country for 2026. Jonathan Kapitolnik made his debut in the Orange and Blue today in the high jump where he made an immediate impact. He placed second in the invite section of the high jump and cleared the school's fifth-best height of 2.15m (7-0 1/2).

In Wake Forest, Pol Molins recorded the program's third-fastest 1500m when he clocked a time of 3:39.26. That time is currently the 10th-fastest time in the nation for the 2026 season.

The Illini track and field teams resume the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational tomorrow (April 18). Field events begin at 8 a.m. and track events start at 8:30 a.m. CT.
