Seven Fighting Illini Track and Field Athletes Head to World Athletics U20 Championships

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Seven Illinois track and field athletes are set to compete in the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Ore. on Wednesday-Sunday (Aug. 5-9). There's a good mix of athletes who competed in the Orange and Blue last season and some incoming freshman competing on the world scale.

Current Illini competing at the World Championships are Mireya Bugeja (1500m, Malta), Pol Molins (1500m, Spain), and Siun Quinn (high jump, Ireland). Incoming Illini freshmen competing at the World Championships are Charalampos Alivizatos (high jump, Greece), Kim Beard (hammer throw, USA), Joshua Mungin (800m, Great Britain) and Godfred Opoku (400m, Ghana).
