CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 4 women's and No. 12 men's Illinois track and field teams are set to compete at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Fri.-Sat. (Feb. 14-15.) Track events begin on Feb. 14 at 1 p.m. and field events at 1:15 p.m.; the next day on Feb. 15 field event start at 10:30 a.m. with track events at 10:45 a.m. Ct. The last time the Illini participated in the event was in 2014, when five athletes earned top-five finishes.
In Albuquerque last weekend, Asia Thomas (60m and 200m) and Abria Smith (shot put) both topped the program leaderboards in their events. Thomas set a new school record by running a 7.24 in the 60m and a 23.21 in the 200m. Smith set a new school record with a 17.27m (56-8) shot put. Additionally, Rose Yeboah (high jump) and Phethisang Makhethe (weight throw) each improved their own school records. Yeboah leaped 1.92m (6-3 1/2) and Makhethe threw 22.52m (73-10 3/4). Jackson Gilbert ran the fourth-fastest 200m (20.95) and the eighth-fastest 400m (46.67) times in program history.
At the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational in Boston, Halle Hill ran the second-fastest mile in Illinois history with a 4:34.67 and Nicolas Dovalovsky recorded the 10th-fastest 800m time in program history (1:49.24).
