Illinois baseball swept a non-conference home series vs. Northern Illinois last weekend, winning 15-5, 16-5, and 21-11, behind huge offensive efforts from Jacob Schroeder, Drake Westcott and Ryan Moerman. The trio accounted over 50% of the team's scoring on a combined 21-of-37 from the plate with 10 home runs, two doubles, 28 RBI and 22 runs scored.
Moerman posted his second multi-homer game of the season with a pair on Saturday, including his first grand slam of the year. Schroeder and Westcott also had monster days on Sunday, with the duo slugging three home runs each, including a Schroeder grand slam. They powered an Illini offense that hit a season-high eight home runs, the most in a single game since 1999, just one shy of the single-game program record. Sunday's 21-11 win was the first time since 2015 that the Illini scored at least 20 runs in a game.
Moerman, a junior from Lockport, Ill., holds a 3.33 GPA studying agriculture & consumer economics, Schroeder, from Chicago, is a redshirt senior with a 3.27 GPA studying psychology, and Westcott, who hails Edwardsville, Ill., is a redshirt junior with a 3.43 GPA in recreation, sport, & tourism.
