Freshman forward David Mirkovic delivered a clutch performance on Sunday, March 8, leading No. 11 Illinois to a 78–72 road win over Maryland to close out the regular season and secure a top-four seed and a triple-bye into the quarterfinals of the upcoming Big Ten Tournament. Mirkovic recorded a 22-point, 11-rebound double-double that proved to be the difference in the back-and-forth battle, helping buoy the Illini early in the game and hold off Maryland throughout the second half.
Mirkovic, a freshman from Niksic, Montenegro, is majoring in Recreation, Sport, and Tourism at the University of Illinois.
