CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois men's and women's track and field teams take flight to Walnut, Calif., for the 64th annual Mt. SAC Relays from Wednesday to Saturday (April 17-20).
Senior Aiden Ouimet begins his first decathlon of the outdoor season on Wednesday (April 17). His last combined event was the heptathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships, where he earned All-America status by placing fourth. He became the highest heptathlete finisher in Illinois history and the school's second-ever All-American in the event.
Junior Tacoria Humphrey lit up the long jump at last weekend's Gary Wieneke Memorial, demolishing the school and Demirjian Track record with a 6.73m (22-1) leap. Her teammates, freshman Elizabeth Ndudi and junior Darja Sopova, were all exchanging the record on each of their attempts.
Ndudi finished in second place with the program's second-best mark of 6.68m (21-11), and Sopova placed third with the program's third-best mark, 6.64m (21-9 1/2). These three marks currently rank as second, third and fifth best in the nation, respectively, for the 2024 outdoor season. Sopova later claimed the triple jump crown with the program's second-best and nation's fourth-best leap of 13.37m (43-10 1/2).
Graduate student Amber Simpson made some noise in her outdoor Illinois debut by throwing the new Big Ten and school record hammer throw, 70.21m (230-4). Her mark is currently the nation's second-best throw.
Senior Tyler Sudduth tossed the nation's sixth-farthest shot put in his event win, 19.85m (65-1 1/2). Junior Tori Thomas improved her outdoor personal best by a centimeter, 4.37m (14-4), which also ranks sixth in the country.
