The No. 4 Illinois volleyball team extended their winning streak to 11 matches as the Illini earned two sweeps this week in victories over Northwestern and Rutgers. The Illini are now 26-3 overall and 15-3 in the Big Ten.
The Illini were paced by senior Ali Bastianelli with 10 kills on a .500 hitting percentage and had a match-high four blocks in the win over Northwestern to become the first-ever Illini and only the third-ever Big Ten Conference player to register 700 or more total blocks. She currently owns 702 career blocks in her four years. Bastianelli continued to add to her record total in the Rutgers match registering a match high seven blocks and eight kills. Bastianelli is the top blocker in program history having broken both the career total blocks and block assists record at Illinois, as well as the Big Ten Conference block assists record.
Bastianelli was named the Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
