OAHU, Hawaii – Illinois Women's Golf opened spring break play from Oahu, Hawaii, with 36 holes of play on Tuesday, March 22. The Illini posted team rounds of 301 and 292 for their current fifth-place standing. Third round plays resumes at 1 p.m. CT on Wednesday, March 23, with a shotgun start.

ROUND 1

In the opening round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Oahu, Hawaii, the Illinois women's golf team turned in a combined score of 301 for a fifth-place ranking. The Orange and Blue held tight in the top five for a majority of the round.

Dana Gattone led the Illini with a reading of 74 in the opening frame. The sophomore opened the day with a birdie and proceeded to post two more in the round for the two-over showing. Gattone entered round two tied for 16th place in the individual field.

Stephanie Miller scored a 75 in the first round and began the second in a share of 22nd place. The junior Illini was one of three Illinois golfers to birdie the opening hole of the back nine.

Grace Park and Bing Singhsumalee each posted opening rounds of 76 from the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course. The Illini were tied for 30th after the first 18 holes.

Chayanid Prapassarangkul closed the first round with a reading of 78 along with a pair of birdies.

Texas A&M lead the team leaderboard after the first round with a -7 score of 281. Texas and Oklahoma State also turned in readings under par with rounds of 285 and 287, respectively. Pepperdine (294) and the Illini (301) rounded out the top five.

ROUND 2

The Orange and Blue continued to hold steady in the second round of the day from the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course, again resting in fifth place following the round. Illinois knocked nine strokes off its previous team round score for a carding of 292.

Singhsumalee etched her way into the record book with her second round showing of 68 (-4), which ties for the seventh-best mark in program history. The Illini freshman jumped 21 spots on the individual leaderboard after her stellar second round and will enter round three in a two-way tie for ninth place. She currently sits at an even-par 144 to lead the Orange and Blue.

Park also made a jump on the individual board, climbing seven places to enter the break in a tie for 23rd place. The Illini sophomore registered rounds of 76-73 on the opening day of play for a five-over reading. Also with a share of the 23rd spot is Illinois' Miller. The junior posted rounds of 75 and 74, respectively, on the opening day of play in Hawaii. Miller owns 27 holes at par in the tournament, the second-best reading across the board.

After leading the team in the day's opening round, Gattone added a second-round score of 78 to sit at eight-over par to enter round three. Gattone is tied for 38th following the first day's closing round. The sophomore has tallied five birdies through two rounds of play for the second-highest mark by an Illini behind Singhsumalee.

Prapassarangkul closed the day tied for 52nd after a second-round score of 77 put her combined total at 155 (+11).

With second-round play in the books, a new team leader emerged. Oklahoma State fired a six-under par second round to take over the top spot. Pepperdine and Texas A&M are now tied for second at even par while Texas and the Illini sit in fourth and fifth place respectively.
