Peoria, Ill. - The Fighting Illini men's cross country team's season placed fifth out of 29 teams at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships on Saturday in Peoria, Ill. The Illini finished with a team total of 140 points, just four points away from a fourth-place finish. Juniors Jim Riddle and Dan Kremske earned All-Midwest Region honors for their performances. Riddle led all Illini, clocking a 10K time of 30:22 and placing 17th overall, while Kremske placed 24th overall in 30:34.

"We ran the best race of the year," said head coach Wendel McRaven. "We were a little disappointed because we wanted to finish in the top four, but it's a nice improvement for us. I'm really proud of the guys. They definitely ran even better than they did at the Big Ten meet. If this ends up being the last meet of the season for us, we definitely ended on a high note. I feel like we are headed in the right direction."

Crossing the finish line third for the Orange and Blue was senior Jeremy Stevens, who timed 30:54 with a 33rd place finish overall. Right behind Stevens were juniors Nathan Troester and Colin Mickow, who came in just a second apart at 34th and 35th, respectively.

Oklahoma captured the team title with a total of 43 points, beating out five-time defending champion Oklahoma State by seven points. Colby Lowe of Oklahoma State took the individual crown with a 10K time of 29:30.
