Illini Open Complete Results
Urbana, Ill. - The Fighting Illini men's cross-country team competed in the Illini Open Friday, with junior Chris DeSilva taking the overall title. DeSilva finished with an 8K time of 25:10. Lewis University took the overall team title with a score of 35 points.
The Illini only ran four runners this year, so they were unable to record a team score.
"I was really pleased with Chris DeSilva's race," said head coach Wendel McRaven. "It was a breakthrough for him this year. He looked like he had control throughout the race. It was a really solid effort and it's nice to see him run well."
Following DeSilva was sophomore Hunter Mickow, who finished fifth overall in 25:27. Senior Mike Murray came in ninth overall with a time of 25:51. Freshman Drew Bell ran an 8K time of 27:25 and placed 34th overall for Illinois.
Freshman Mark Donohue ran unattached and placed seventh overall, clocking a personal best time of 25:37. Freshmen Jordan Lagomarcino and Manu Kumar also ran unattached, placing 22nd (26:42) and 50th (28:35) respectively.
"I was really pleased with Mark Donohue's race," said McRaven. "He really stuck his nose out there. He is getting stronger. This is not a course that runs very fast. It was in good shape today, but it definitely does not traditionally run very fast."
The Illini will return to Madison, Wis. on Sunday, Oct. 31 to compete in the Big Ten Championships.
