
Retsa Clears Program’s Fourth-Best Pole Vault at Fourth-Annual Gary Wieneke Memorial

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois men's and women's track and field teams completed the first day of the fourth-annual Gary Wieneke Memorial on Friday (May 1) from Demirjian Park. Anastasia Retsa moved up to fourth in the pole vault program record book in her second-place finish when she cleared 4.22m (13-10).
In the women's hammer throw, Phethisang Makhethe won the event on a season-best toss of 68.27m (223-11) followed by teammates Jordan Koskondy in second [66.14m (214-0)] and Oluwatomilayo Akintunde in third [61.55m (201-11)].
Mia Morello claimed gold in the pole vault on a clearance of 4.33m (14-2 1/2) and her teammate Landry Allen finished in third, 3.82m (12-6 1/4). Jackson Gilbert broke the tape in the 200m on a time of 21.24.
UP NEXT
The Orange and Blue track and field crews return to action tomorrow (May 2) for the final day of the Gary Wieneke Memorial. Field events start at 12 p.m. and track events begin at 2:30 p.m. CT.
