Garrett Earns High Jump All-America Honors at NCAA Outdoor Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Illinois high jumper Kam Garrett earned All-America honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in his fourth-place finish, 2.20m (7-2 1/2), on Friday (June 13) from Hayward Field at Oregon.

The Indianapolis native is the first Illini men's high jumper to earn All-America honors in 16 years since Greg Shroka in 2009. Additionally, he collects the program's eighth outdoor NCAA First-Team All-America honor in the event.

He ends his junior season becoming an All-American for the first time. Earlier in the season he captured a silver medal at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships clearing 2.14m (7-0 1/4). He's now a one-time All-American and a three-time Big Ten medalist in the high jump with two silvers and one bronze.

Lucie Kienast and Melissa Wullschleger completed the first four events of their heptathlon today. Wullschleger resides in seventh place with 3,503 points highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the shot put, 13.61m (44-8) while Kienast sits in 13th place with 3,407 points highlighted by an eighth-place finish in the shot put too, 12.86m (42-2 1/4).

Viktor Morozov did not record a mark in today's triple jump competition. He completes his junior year as the Big Ten Outdoor Champion in the triple jump, 15.63m (51-3 1/2), and during the indoor season he earned his first Big Ten medal when he earned bronze on a triple jump of 15.81m (51-10 1/2).

The men's team finishes in 44th place out of 72 teams with 6.5 points, five coming from Garrett and one and a half from Cody Johnston in the pole vault on June 11.

HEPTATHLON

Melissa Wullschleger – Seventh (3,503 points)

  • Placed fourth in the shot put, 13.61m (44-8).
  • Placed 11th in the 100mH (13.75).
  • Placed 14th in the high jump, 1.66m (5-5 1/4).
  • Placed 16th in the 200m (24.70).

Lucie Kienast – 13th (3,407 points)

  • Placed eighth in the shot put, 12.86m (42-2 1/4).
  • Placed ninth in the high jump, 1.69m (5-6 1/2).
  • Placed 15th in the 200m (24.68)
  • Placed 23rd in the 100mH (14.34).
