COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Illinois men's track and field team finished their final day of the NCAA West Preliminaries on Friday (May 30) from E.B. Cushing Stadium at Texas A&M. Kam Garrett (high jump) and Viktor Morozov (triple jump) each punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.
Garrett had a perfectly clean sheet in the high jump clearing all four bars on his first attempt, one of only five athletes in the field to do so. Today's progression was 2.04m (6-8 1/4), 2.09m (6-10 1/4), 2.14m (7-0 1/4) and finally 2.17m (7-1 1/2) to punch his ticket to the national meet. This marks the second-consecutive season he's qualified to national's outdoors in the high jump.
Morozov posted a clean sheet in the triple jump as well leaping 15.93m (52-3 1/4) on his second attempt to punch his ticket back to Hayward Field. This is his second-straight time qualifying to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the triple jump as well.
