EUGENE, Ore. – The Illinois men's track and field team completed their final day of competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Friday (June 7) from Hayward Field. Sophomore Viktor Morozov placed 13th in the triple jump with his collegiate-best 15.94m (52-3 3/4), this mark would rank seventh in school history.

However, his personal-best (16.45m (53-11 1/2)) was set at the 2023 European U20 Championships and is second in program history. Since he was actively on the Illinois roster prior to this mark, it does count in the program record book.

"We came here with the majority of our athletes never competing in NCAA Finals competition before," said director of track, field and cross country Petros Kyprianou. "Unfortunately, we didn't perform at our expectations. However, I'm excited about where we should be next year with all these young men returning with more experience and confidence. Cody Johnston is a rising leader and a fearless competitor. We need everyone to look up to him to elevate our level of competitiveness and grit to turn us into a top-10 team. More positives are that Illinois is collecting multiple All-Americans and scoring points which gives the men's team their highest finish in six years."

Morozov completes his second season with the Illini qualifying to the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the first time in his career. He placed fourth in the triple jump at the Big Ten Indoor Championships (15.77m (51-9)) and seventh at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships (7.79m (25-6 3/4)). Additionally, he recorded the program's sixth-best long jump at the Fighting Illini Tune-Up, 7.79m (25-6 3/4).

Junior Kam Garrett placed 17th in the high jump with a clearance of 2.12m (6-11 1/2). Garrett completes his first season at Illinois qualifying to the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the first time in his career as well.

He earned Second-Team All-Big Ten honors for his second-place finish in the high jump at the Big Ten Championships, 2.21m (7-3). That leap matched the school record, making him the first Illini man to do so since Gail Olson originally set it in 1979 and then again in 1980. He finished third at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships and leapt the program's third-best high jump (2.20m (7-2 1/2)) at the Fighting Illini Tune-Up.

Evan Correll, representing Illinois, became the inaugural National Champion in the 100m wheelchair race with a time of 14.33.

"We proud of the team's and staff's efforts this season, we're excited about closing out with our women tomorrow."
