The Illini baseball team opened the 2024 season with a 2-2 start last weekend at the Wake Forest Tournament, capped by a dominant 9-1 win over Fordham. Freshman P Regan Hall earned the win in his collegiate debut vs. the Rams, working through 6.0 innings of one-run ball, picking up nine strikeouts and a quality start. Hall allowed just two hits and only one walk, impressively retiring 14 of his final 16 batters faced. Hall is from Albuquerque, N.M., and is majoring in nutrition & health with a 3.28 GPA.
Freshman OF Cameron Chee-Aloy also made a statement in his collegiate debut weekend, batting .308 and getting a hit in all four game for the Illini. He hammered three home runs, currently tied for the most among Big Ten hitters. His first homer of the weekend was a two-out, two-run blast in the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie and help the Illini to a victory in the opener vs. Akron. In total, Chee-Aloy scored six times and collected five RBI, while also adding in an outfield assist. He is from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and holds a 3.68 GPA at Illinois.
