CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois men's and women's track and field team announced its schedule for the upcoming 2024 season on Tuesday. The Illini will host four meets in 2024, two during the indoor season and two during the outdoor season.
The 2024 indoor campaign begins in Champaign at the UI Armory on Jan. 6 for the Illini Open. The next two weeks will then feature away competitions for the Orange and Blue, including the Commodore Challenge (Jan. 12-13) and Larry Wieczorek Invitational (Jan. 19-20) in Nashville, Tenn. and Iowa City, Iowa, respectively.
The second and final indoor home meet, the Illini Challenge, is back in the UI Armory on Jan. 26-27. Two meets remain before the indoor postseason gets underway: the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind., on Feb. 2-3, and the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C., on Feb. 9-10.
The Big Ten Indoor Championships are back in Geneva, Ohio, at the SPIRE Institute on Feb. 23-24, while the NCAA Indoor Championships will be held in Boston on March 8-9.
Outdoor season begins the week of spring break in a classic spring-break location. The Illini travel south to the University of Miami for the Hurricane Invitational on March 15-16. They round out the month of March again making a trip to Florida, this time in Gainesville for the Florida Relays on March 29-30.
Demirjian Park sees its first action of the 2024 season on April 13 for the second annual Gary Wieneke Memorial. A select number of Illini student-athletes have a quick turn around to the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. on April 17-20.Â
The Orange and Blue return to the Drake Relays this season in Des Moines, Iowa, on April 25-27 before closing out the regular season at home with the Fighting Illini Tune-Up on May 4.
The University of Michigan is the host site for this year's Big Ten Outdoor Championships on May 9-11. The NCAA West Preliminaries will take place in Fayetteville, Ark., on May 22-25 before the 2024 season comes to a close at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 5-8.
