CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Four Illinois decathletes (Jip de Greef, Andreas Hantson, Tim Pelkmans and Rafael Raap) completed the first half of their competitions today (April 9) at the Illini Deca-Jam at Demirjian Park.
De Greef is the current leader of the field with 4,261 points after the first five events. He was the event winner in three of them the 100m (10.75), 400m with a new personal-best time (48.61) and the long jump, 7.47m (24-06 1/4). In the shot put he threw 14.54m (47-8 1/2) to earn silver and cleared 1.97m (6-5 1/2) in the high jump to take bronze.
Hantson resides in third place after the first half of his decathlon with 4,042 points highlighted by an event win in the high jump after he cleared 2.00m (6-6 3/4), a silver in the 400m (49.92) and a bronze medal in the long jump, 7.32m (24-0 1/4).
Raap is in fourth place with 3,855 points where he had three fourth place finishes: in the shot put [13.86m (45-5 3/4)], long jump [7.30m (23-11 1/2)] and high jump [1.91m (6-3 1/4)]. Pelkmans rounds out the Illini decathletes in sixth place with 3,742 points. His highest finish of the day was fourth in the 400m (50.15).

The four decathletes return to action tomorrow (April 10) for the second half of their decathlons which will resume at 12:30 p.m. CT.
