April 24 - 30, 2023
Jack Wenninger | JR., Baseball | Major: Information Science
Fighting Illini baseball picked up a dominant 7-0 victory over Ohio State on Saturday behind an impressive effort on the mound from Jack Wenninger who twirled a one-hit, complete-game, gem to improve to 5-3 on the season. Wenninger began his outing by retiring the first six batters that came to the plate, before yielding his lone hit, a lead-off double, in the third. He worked around it to get out of the inning unscathed. The righty was simply dominant to end the game, retiring the final 21 batters he faced, picking up five strikeouts along the way.
Wenninger tossed the first complete game by an Illinois pitcher since Ty Weber on April 15, 2018, and also became the first Illini pitcher to throw a complete-game shutout since Kevin Duchene on May 10, 2013. He is the first Illinois pitcher to throw a complete-game, one-hit, shutout since at least 2002.
A native of Cary, Ill., Wenninger is a junior studying Information Science at Illinois.
