ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Fighting Illini swim and dive team wrapped up the third day of the Big Ten Championships on Friday, Feb. 17. Three Illinois swimmers qualified for the C finals: freshman Sara Jass (400 IM), junior Cara Bognar (400 IM) and senior Kaleigh Haworth (100 breaststroke).
Jass placed third in the 400 IM C finals heat and improved her school's fifth best time to 4:17.42 shaving off almost exactly one second. This is her second time scoring in the conference meet, she has nine points (six today, three yesterday) total. She qualified with a time of 4:19.38. Bognar placed sixth in the same heat with a 4:19.48 and scored three points. She qualified with a 4:22.46.
Haworth placed third in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:02.61 and scored six points. She dropped .09 seconds off of her qualifying time of 1:02.70. Sophomore Sydney Stoll clocked the school's new fifth best 100 backstroke in the time trials (54.86). Stoll also registered the school's new tenth best 200 freestyle mark (1:49.17).
In the 200 freestyle sophomore Paloma Canos-Cervera (1:52.46) and junior Lauren Beard (1:52.65) both swam new personal-best. Beard also posted a new personal-best in the 200 freestyle time trials (1:52.05). Guerra recorded a new personal-best in the 100 butterfly (55.46). Senior Mariclaire Lynch touched a new personal-best in the 100 breaststroke time trials.
