FAYETTEVILLE, ARK. – Juniors Olivia Howell and Jessica McDowell advanced to NCAA Quarterfinals on day two of the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor West Prelims on Thursday (May 26) at John McDonnell Field.
Howell and McDowell join graduate student Jon Davis and senior Bret Dannis in advancing to NCAA Quarterfinals after the men's duo turned in qualifying performances on day one of the action on Wednesday night.
One of three Illini in the women's 1500m field, Howell finished first in her heat and third overall with a time of 4:17.94 to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals set for 5:15 p.m. CT.
McDowell then followed with a qualifying time in the women's 400m as the junior finished fourth in her heat and 21st overall with a time of 53.37 to advance on time to Saturday's quarterfinal scheduled for 6:50 p.m. CT.
The NCAA West Prelims continue on Friday as Davis is set to compete in the men's 1500m quarterfinal at 5:15 p.m. CT, with Dannis running in the men's 110m hurdles quarterfinals at 6:15 p.m. CT. Athletes with the top 12 times/marks and the best 12 relay teams at both the East and West Preliminary Rounds sites will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
