PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Senior Crystal Wang is just two strokes off the lead and sits in second place and the No. 25 Illinois women's golf team held steady in fourth place through two rounds at the Big Ten Championships. The Illini own a four-over par 36-hole total of 572 after turning in an even-par 284 in its second round on Saturday (April 23) at the par 71, 6,045-yard Fox Chapel Golf Club.
Wang carded the low round of the day with a five-under 66 and sits at four-under with a two-round total of 138, just two strokes back of tournament leader Monet Chun of Michigan (136), who also posted a 66 on Saturday. The Diamond Bar, Calif., native got off to a hot start with an eagle on the second hole, before draining five birdies, including finishing off her round with a birdie on 18.
Sophomore Isabel Sy posted a two-over 73 in her second round and is tied for 11th with a one-over total of 143, with senior Kornkamol Sukaree just behind her with a two-over total of 144 after registering a one-over 72 on Saturday.
Freshman Alise Knudson was just one stroke of equaling her career low round after posting a two-over 73 in her second round and owns a five-over total of 147 to sit in a tie for 27th. Junior Siyan Chen is nine-over with a 151 total and posted a 77 (+6) on the day, while freshman Lexanne Halama rounded out the Illini with a 78 (+7) and owns a 154 (+12) total through two rounds.
Michigan holds the team lead at two-under par (566), with Michigan State (570) and Northwestern (570) tied for second at two-over par.
The Big Ten Championships concludes with the third and final round on Sunday (April 24) with the Illini tee times between 7:57 a.m. and 8:44 a.m. CT off of hole one and paired with Ohio State and Maryland. Fans can follow along with live scoring via Golfstat.com.
