GLENDALE, Calif. — Illinois women's golf finished tied for fifth place at the conclusion of the Big Ten Championships on Sunday evening, carding an 873 (+33) over three rounds.
For the second round in a row, Brielle Mapanao carded the lowest individual round for Illinois, a 70 (E), and was one of just six players at or under par for the day. Her strong showings on day two and three lifted her 12 places to finish tied for ninth, as the overall low scorer for the Orange and Blue.
Behind Mapanao was Anna Ritter who carded a 79 (+9) in round three to finish tied for 20th place. Victoria Zheng finished tied for 25th, notching a 75 (+5) on the final day.
Alexis Myers fired off a 78(+8) to finish tied for 29th, and Erica Lee an 87 (+17), to conclude the event tied for 82nd. Lee earned the second-best scoring average of the field on par fives, with a 4.50.
As a team, the Fighting Illini tied for the second-best scoring average on par fives (4.93), and earned the third-most birdies, with 37 across the three rounds. Ritter was tied for the most birdies across the individual field, posting 12.
Illinois has finished in the top five of the Big Ten Championships field in four of the last five years. USC took the team title, while Jasmine Koo of USC won the individual crown.
