PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The No. 25 Illinois women's golf team is tied for fourth through the first round of the Big Ten Championships after carding a four-over par 288 at the par 71, 6,045-yard Fox Chapel Golf Club on Friday (April 22).
Michigan State leads the tournament with a first-round total of 282 (-2), with Purdue (285) and Michigan (285) tied for second.
Sophomore Isabel Sy kept up her consistent play this spring and paced the Illini with a one-under par 70 to tie for fifth after recording 15 pars and a pair of birdies in her round. Seniors Crystal Wang and Kornkamol Sukaree joined her in the top 20 and are tied for 16th after posting a one-over par 72 in their opening round.
Junior Siyan Chen and freshman Alise Knudson each turned in a three-over 74 on day one and are tied for 33rd, while freshman Lexanne Halama rounded out the Illini with a five-over 76 and is tied for 46th.
MSU's Leila Raines and Nebraska's Michaela Vavrova lead the tournament individually with a three-under 68 in the first round.
The Big Ten Championships continue with the second round on Saturday (April 23) with the Illini tee times between 8:27 a.m. and 9:14 a.m. CT off of hole one and paired with Maryland and Northwestern. Fans can follow along with live scoring via Golfstat.com.
