JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – The Illinois women's golf team finished the Briar's Creek Invitational in sixth place after turning in a 19-over par tournament total of 883. The Illini, who finished their second round on Tuesday (March 15) morning following a suspension of play due to darkness on Monday, carded second and third rounds of 287 (-1) and 294 (+6) on the par 72, 6,116-yard Golf Club at Briar's Creek course.
"The team rebounded very well yesterday afternoon following a slow start to the tournament," said head coach Renee Slone. "We played with doubt and hesitation in the first round which makes it difficult to perform. These results give us guidance for areas to focus on in the coming week and certainly will be a huge motivator moving forward."
Sophomore Isabel Sy led Illinois individually as she equaled her career best finish to tie for eighth place after posting an even-par 216 with standout rounds of 69-72 in the final two rounds. It was her first top-10 finish of the season and second in her career.
Senior Kornkamol Sukaree earned her fourth top-25 finish of the season as she tied for 24th with a five-over tournament total of 221 with rounds of 72-73.
Freshman Lexanne Halama tied for 32nd after posting rounds of 74-75 for a 54-hole total of 223 (+7), while senior Crystal Wang was right behind her tied for 34th with a total of 224 (+8) after carding rounds of 72-74. Junior Siyan Chen rounded out the Illini with back-to-back rounds of 75 to finish in a tie for 48th with a tournament total of 227 (+11).
Individually, freshman Alise Knudson tied for 66th with a 231 (+15) total with rounds of 75-74 on the final day.
Campbell took home the tournament title with a 54-hole total of 853 (-11), with Boston College's Nathalie Irlbacher earning medalist honors with a 211 (-5) tournament total.

The Illini continue the spring slate with the Clemson Invitational, held at the Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, S.C., on March 25-27.
