SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Illinois women's and men's track teams opened competition at the Meyo Invitational on Friday (February 4) afternoon at the Loftus Sports Center on the campus of Notre Dame.
The Illini had a pair of top-10 finishes in the men's pole vault as freshman Collin Kao posted a mark of 4.75m to place fourth, while junior Aiden Ouimet was seventh with a vault of 4.60.
Freshman Kenli Nettles had a busy day as she turned in a time of 9.13s to advance to the semifinals of the 60m hurdles, before finishing in 11th with a mark of 1.59m in the women's high jump.
Junior Tracy Towns registered a personal-best time of 1.33.49 to place 10th in the women's 600m, with freshman Lydia Malecek right behind her in 11th with a time of 1.33.66. In the men's 600m race, freshman William Merrick finished in 12th with a time of 1.20.46.
The day was rounded out by two top-15 finishes in the men's weight throw as junior Tyler Sudduth placed 11th with a throw of 18.65m and reshirt-junior Brian Keyes posting a mark of 18.42m for a 12th place finish.
The Meyo Invitational continues on Saturday (February 5) with running events beginning at 9 a.m. CT with the women's 3,000m run and field events starting at 9:30 a.m. CT with the women's triple jump.
