
Illini Head to Nashville for Indoor Music City Challenge

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois men's and women's track & field teams continue its indoor season with a trip to Nashville, Tenn., for the Indoor Music City Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility on Friday and Saturday (February 11-12).
The Illini will be joined by 31 other teams in Nashville, including the host Commodores as well as Alabama, Arkansas State, Cincinnati, Duke, Eastern Kentucky, FIU, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Lipscomb, LSU, Memphis, Meridian Community College, Miami [Ohio], Michigan State, Mississippi State, Murray State, Ole Miss, Penn State, Samford, SMU, Southern Illinois, Southern Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UMass Lowell, Villanova, and Western Illinois.
The meet begins with the women's and men's high jump and men's weight throw on Friday at 2 p.m. CT, with running events starting at 5 p.m. CT with the women's mile run. The meet continues on Saturday with running events starting at 9 a.m. CT with the women's unseeded 3,000m race and field events slated to begin at 11 a.m. CT with the men's shot put and women's pole vault.
General admission is $5, with children 10 and younger getting in free of charge. Free parking is available in the 25th Ave. Garage on event days only through the Highland Avenue entrance. On weekdays before 5 p.m., CT spectators should park on floors 9-11 in any non-reserved spaces. On weekends, spectators may park in any non-reserved space after entering from Highland Avenue.
Visitors must follow university COVID protocols and wear a mask at all times when indoors. Vanderbilt University has also adopted a new clear bag policy for all home athletics contests. This policy will be enforced for all spectators.

Last Time Out
Illinois wrapped competition at the Meyo Invitational last weekend at the Loftus Sports Center, with the meet highlighted by junior Olivia Howell breaking her own school record to win the mile run and graduate student Allison McGrath earning a win in the unseeded 3,000m race with a personal best time as well as several other personal bests on Saturday (February 5).

Meyo Invitational Notes
- After setting a new school record in the mile just a week ago at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational, Howell broke her own record with a personal best time of 4.37.11 to win the event. Howell's time sits as the second-best time in the Big Ten and 16th-best time in the nation through the first four weeks of the indoor season.
- Graduate student Allison McGrath gave the Illini a strong start on the day with a win in the unseeded 3,000m race with a personal best time of 9:37.89, with freshman Halle Hill finishing in third with a time of 9:40.53.
- Graduate student Jon Davis also continued where he left off last week as he broke his indoor personal record in the 800m for the second-straight week with a time of 1:49.37 to place second.
- Junior Tyler Sudduth had another impressive weekend as he registered the third-best throw in program history with a personal record of 19.00m to place third in the men's shot put.
- The Illini distance runners continued to stay hot as senior Emma Milburn turned in the third-best time in program history in the women's 3000m with a personal best time of 9:21.37.
- The Illini had 18 student-athletes post personal best performances on the day.
Illini in the Rankings
The Illini women came in at No. 11 in the second USTFCCCA Midwest Regional TFRI, with the Illini men coming in at No. 14.
Next Up
Illinois next hosts its second of two indoor meets with the Illini Classic at the UI Armory on Friday, February 18, before the team heads to the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind., on Saturday, February 19.
