Junior Michael Fletcher was crowned the B1G Vault champion with a score of 14.600. The fighting Illini men's gymnastics team took fourth place at the 2021 Big Ten Men's Gymnastics Championships, putting up a score of 396.900.
Fletcher is no stranger to being a high performer in the gym and the classroom as he holds several career titles and achievements including:
- Five career event titles (one pommel horse, one still rings, one high bar, two all-around)
- 2019 Big Ten Freshman of the Year
- 2019 First Team All-Big Ten
- 2019 Illinois Athletics Male Freshman of the Year Finalist
- Bronze all-around medalist at the 2019 Big Ten Championships (82.700, second-best all-around performance in school history)
- Academic All-Big Ten (2020)
Earlier this season, Fletcher competed at the 2021 Winter Cup where he finished 2nd in the vault and 10th in the all-around competition with a score of 152.650.
Fletcher and the rest of the Fighting Illini men's gymnastics team has been selected to compete in the 2021 NC Men's Gymnastics championships on Apr. 16 and 17.
