Manning Plater earned third place in the men's weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Track Championships on the evening of Thursday, March 11. His toss of 74-7 (22.73 m) on his fourth attempt gave him the bronze medal, the Illinois school record in the event and USTFCCCA First Team All-American Honors. Plater's third place finish is the highest individual Illini performance at the NCAA Indoor Championships since 2012 when Andrew Riley finished second in the 60 m dash. It is the highest national placement in the weight throw in Illinois school history.
In addition to his most recent accolades this season, Manning has earned several others including:
- 2021 B1G Champion - Weight Throw
- First Team All-Big Ten
- Named B1G Field Athlete of the Week (1/17-1/23)
Plater and the rest of the track and field team open their outdoor season this week in Bloomington at the first Big Ten Invitational of the year on March 26th followed by the Iowa Big Ten Invite in Jacksonville, Florida on April 2nd.
