
Illini Fare Well on Day 2 of B1G Championships

GENEVA, Ohio – The Illinois track team completed day two of the Big Ten Indoor Track Championships on Friday. Illini athletes set personal records and qualified for final heats across the board at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. After two days the Illinois men sit in seventh with 18 points and the women sit in ninth place with seven points.
Sophomore Kashief King set a personal best mark in the 400 meter with a time of 48.34 to start the day. Freshman Nicholas Drayden and junior Reed Marshall followed suit, each jumping 47'5.75" in the triple jump to set their own personal records.
Junior Phillip Hall also set a personal record in the 800 meter with a 1:53.22 one day after placing second in the distance medley relay with the Illini squad.
The day continued as the women's events began with qualifications from Illinois. Sophomore Olivia Howell qualified in the mile run with a time of 4:49.05. The mile final will be Saturday at 3:00 p.m CT.
Junior Amira Aduma also qualified in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.48. This mark was also good for Aduma's personal best. The 60 meter finals will be on Saturday at 3:25 p.m. CT.
Redshirt-freshman Jessica McDowell and senior Felicia Phillips dominated the 400 meter race, finishing second and fifth respectively while each setting a personal record in the event. McDowell finished with a 54.17 while Phillips clocked a 54.58. These times move McDowell into seventh place and Phillips into ninth place in the Illinois record book for the event. The 400 meter final will take place on Saturday at 3:10 p.m. CT.
Saturday will wrap up the Big Ten Indoor Track Championships with 24 event finals set to take place. Action will begin at 10:00 a.m. CT with the men's pole vault and conclude following the women's 4x400 meter at 5:15 p.m. CT.
