WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Illinois women's golf team opened play at The Landfall Tradition on Friday (Oct. 29) and sit in 12th place after turning in an opening round 11-over 299 team score at the par-72, 6,150-yard Pete Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall.
Senior Kornkamol Sukaree led the Illini individually on day one, carding an even-par 72 – highlighted by five birdies – to sit in a tie for 12th. Classmate Crystal Wang joined her in the top 30 and is tied for 27th after an opening round two-over 74.
Sophomore Isabel Sy shot a four-over 76 and is tied for 55th through one round, with junior Siyan Chen right behind her in a tie for 62nd with a five-over 77. Freshman Lexanne Halama rounded out the Illini with a 10-over 82.
Michigan leads the tournament with an opening round total of 289 (+1), with Virginia in second with a two-over 290 and South Carolina, Texas and Clemson all tied for third with a three-over 291 to round out the top five. SC's Justine Fournand leads all individuals after carding a five-under 67 in the tournament's first round.
The Illini continue play at The Landfall Tradition with the second round on Saturday (Oct. 30) with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CT. Fans can follow along with live scoring via Golfstat.com.
