Day 1 Results | Saturday Heat Sheets
GENEVA, Ohio - Fighting Illini women's track and field scored in the Pole Vault and Distance Medley Relay on Day 1 of the Big Ten Indoor Championships at the SPIRE Institute. Senior Carolyn Nye cleared a PR height of 13-3 1/2 (4.05 meters) to place sixth in the Pole Vault and score three points for the Illini. The mark ranks fourth in Illini indoor program history. In the DMR, the Illini relay comprised of junior Rebecca Craddock, freshman Danni Stoughton, junior Mikaela Lucki and senior Grace Rogers timed 11:24.80 to place sixth and pick up three points for Illinois.
Illinois also saw three student-athletes qualify for Saturday running event finals through prelims performances on Friday. Freshman Olivia Howell won her heat in the Mile and clocked the fastest time out of both preliminary heats with her 4:44.34 finish time. Howell's finish is the seventh-fastest Mile time in Illini program history. Howell will run in the event final on Saturday at 12:20 p.m CT.
Redshirt junior Chisom Nwoko was the next Illini to qualify for a Saturday event final. Competing in the women's 400m, Nwoko timed the seventh-fastest prelims time of 54.64 to qualify for the 400m final. Saturday's event final is set for 12:40 p.m. CT.
Freshman Tracy Towns earned her spot in the 800m final with her prelims run on Friday. Towns clocked a personal-best finish time of 2:07.87, the seventh-fastest time in the preliminary field. The 800m final will begin at 1:20 p.m. CT on Saturday.Â
Final running events and the last of field events will take place tomorrow at Big Ten Indoor Championships. Competition resumes tomorrow at 10 a.m. CT with the Heptathlon 60m Hurdles and the women's High Jump.
