
Allegretti Named to Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois senior Nick Allegretti was named to the Wuerffel Trophy watch list, the award committee announced Thursday. The Wuerffel Trophy is known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service" and is presented annually to the Football Bowl Subdivision player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Voting for the Wuerffel Trophy is performed by a national selection committee that includes college football television and print media, industry notables, former head coaches and prior Wuerffel Trophy recipients.
Past winners of the award include Tim Tebow (Florida, 2008), Matt Barkley (USC, 2012) and Courtney Love (Kentucky, 2017).
Allegretti also is on the watch list for the AFCA Good Works team, which honors a student-athlete's dedication to volunteerism, community involvement and enriching the lives of others.

• Started all 12 games as a junior in 2017, eight at guard and four at center
• Started all 12 games as a sophomore in 2016, 11 at guard and one at center
• Played in all 12 games as an offensive lineman (both C and G) and on special teams (FG protection) in 2015
• Three-time Academic All-Big Ten
• Helped Illinois' Uplifting Athletes chapter raise over $60,000 for charity at the last two Lift for Life events
• 2018 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree
