West Lafayette, Ind. -Ā Illinois Women's Swimming and Diving concluded competition at the 2017 Big Ten Championships in West Lafayette, Indiana, tonight after four days of action. The Illini placed 12th overall with a final point total of 197.
"This was our best day of the meet," said Sue Novitsky. "We had three individual scorers and three NCAA B time standards.Ā The team stood up and performed with a toughness that we had been looking for the previous two days.Ā I am proud of their resilience and continuing to fight."
On the day, Senior Gabbie Stecker andĀ juniors Ashley Aegerter and Samantha Stratford all had times that qualified for the NCAA B Cut standards.
Stecker's 200 butterfly time of 1:59.12 was also a school-record, while Aegerter's time of 2:16.18 in the 200 breaststroke moved her up to fourth on the all-time fastest individual's list. In the 400 freestyle relay, Stratford swam a lead-off 100 freestyle time of :24.25, placing her at third on the fastest individual's list.
Freshman Monica Guyett placed 27th in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:53.90. The time also makes her the 8th fastest individual.
In the preliminary round, Senior Audrey Rodawig moved up to seventh fastest on the list with her 100 freestyle time of :50.55.
"Our three seniors were good leaders for us this weekend," said Novitsky. "I called on them a lot for relays and to give the team a spark."
Next up on the schedule for the Illini is the NCAA Diving Zones, which will be held in Bloomington, Indiana, from March 9-11, followed by the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis.
