CHAMPAIGN, ILL. – Illinois Women's Track and Field 60m hurdler Pedrya Seymour has been invited to represent the Bahamian Association of Athletics Associations at next weekend's World Indoor Track & Field Championships. A Nassau, Bahamas native, Seymour owns the seventh-fastest time in Illinois history, an 8.16 clip that ranks 13th in the nation entering this weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama. She will compete with the Bahamas' squad March 17-20 in Portland, Oregon.
After suffering an injury that sidelined her last season, Seymour is reaping the benefits of her hard work and resilience this season. In her opening meet in January, Seymour clocked an 8.41 time, and then followed it up with an 8.38 mark the next weekend. For her success in the season's opening weekends, Seymour was named Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week on February 23.
However, it was at Iowa State on February 12 and 13 when red-shirt sophomore started making bigger strides, setting personal-best times in both the prelims and the finals to lower her personal-record time to 8.27. Two weekends after Iowa State, Seymour placed third at Big Ten Championships with the 8.16 time that placed her seventh on the school's top-10 list.
Seymour will wrap up her collegiate indoor season with NCAA Championships this weekend in Birmingham, Alabama. The 60m hurdle semifinals will be streamed live on ESPN3
