COLUMBUS, Ohio - A trio of Illinois divers competed in the NCAA Zone Championships in Columbus, Ohio this weekend. Senior Erika Murphy, sophomore Olivia Kassouni and freshman Raquel Corniuk represented the Fighting Illini at the three-day competition.
"Overall, I am very pleased with the way the girls competed this weekend," said diving coach Chris Waters. "Each of them had at least one strong performance. They put together strong lists of dives and executed in a very competitive field."
In the three-meter dive, Kassouni was the top performer for the Orange and Blue, putting up 254.40 points. Murphy finished with 212.70 points in the weekend's first event.
In the one-meter dive, Murphy was the top Illini finisher with 241.45 points. Corniuk was behind her with 225.45 points, while Kassouni scored 192.05 points.
In the platform competition, Corniuk finished 10th with 452.80 points, just two spots out of NCAA qualifying position. She scored 220.50 points in prelims before adding 232.30 points in finals.
"This was a good weekend for all three girls," stated Waters. "Erika finished up her career with a good performance, while Olivia and Raquel have something to build upon heading into next year."
