The Fighting Illini men's track & field team will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska for the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite on Friday, Feb. 6 and Sat. Feb 7. Competition begins at noon on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

A Look At This Weekend's Competition
A trio of teams ranked in the top 25 of the USTFCCCA's National Team Computer Rankings will be competing in Lincoln. No. 7 Nebraska, No. 12 Alabama and No. 16 Oklahmoa State are the top teams in the field. Iowa State, who recently fell out of the top 25, will also be competing. The Illini will see Big Ten foes Iowa, Maryland and Minnesota, as well.

Last Year's Husker Invite
At the 2014 Frank Sevinge Husker, a meet that featured No. 9 Nebraska and No. 11 Oklahoma State, the Illinois men's track and field team recorded 22 top-10 finishes, 16 personal-bests and three season-bests, while two Illini cracked the school's all-time top-10 list in their respective events. Joe McAsey (600m), Zebo Zebe (800m) and Jannis Toepfer (3,000m) brought home event titles.

Illini on the National Scene
The Illini have eight athletes ranked in the top 20 in the nation of their respective events. In the sprints, the 4x400m relay team of David Kendziera, Kenneth Allen, Joe McAsey and DJ Zahn is eighth in the country with a time of 3:08.95. Zahn also ranks in the top 20 of two individual events, coming in at 17th in the 400m (46.92) and 20th in the 200m (21.18). Joining Zahn on the 200m list is Brandon Stryganek, currently holding the 17th-best mark at 21.16. McAsey holds the 14th-fastest 800m with a performance of 1:48.71.

A pair of Illini field event athletes are also in the top 20. Jonathan Wells is seventh in the high jump with a mark of 2.20m (7' 2.5"), and Davis Fraker is 20th in the weight throw with a season-best toss of 20.87m (68' 5.75").

B1G Contenders
The Illini currently have competitors ranked in the top 10 of the Big Ten in 14 different events. In the 200m dash, Brandon Stryganek (21.16) and DJ Zahn (21.18) rank first and second in the conference. Zahn is also second in the 400m with a season best of 46.92. Joe McAsey is fifth in the 600m (1:17.85) and second in the 800m (1:48.71). Bryce Basting is also ranked in two events, coming in at seventh in the 800m (1:51.42) and fourth in the mile (4:03.97). Liam Markham is right behind Basting in the mile, sitting in fifth at 4:04.26. In the 3,000m, Ian Barnett (8:02.40), Jannis Toepfer (8:11.90) and Paul Zeman (8:14.43) rank third, sixth and ninth, respectively. Zeman is also fourth in the 5,000m with a season-best time of 14:31.01. In the 60m hurdles, Cam Viney (7.85) and David Kendziera (7.96) are second and fourth in the Big Ten. Kendziera, Kenneth Allen, McAsey and Zahn hold the top 4x400m relay in the conference, posting a time of 3:08.95.

Illinois also has four field events with top-10 competitors. Jonathan Wells is tops in the league in the high jump, clearing 2.20m (7' 2.5"). Wells is also second in the long jump with a leap of 7.33m (24' 0.75"). In the triple jump, Branden Tanthavong has posted a season-best mark of 15.25m (50' 0.5"), good for fourth. Davis Fraker rounds out the athletes in the top 10 of the conference, currently sitting at sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 20.87m (68' 5.75").

Top-10 Additions
At the Illini Classic, a pair of Illini freshmen established themselves as some of the best Illinois has ever had in their second collegiate meet. Jonathan Wells' high jump mark of 2.20m (7' 2.5") is the second-best mark in school history, just .01m off the school record. Mo Maat posted a time of 6.78 in the 60m, tying him for the ninth-fastest time in Illinois history. Also at the Illini Classic, sophomore David Kendziera bumped his name up a spot on the list all-time indoor best list for the 60m hurdles. Kendziera, who finished last season ranked ninth all-time, jumped up to a tie for eighth in the event, posting a time of 7.96.

At the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet, Ian Barnett broke a 30-year-old school record in the 3,000m, racing to a time of 8:02.40. That time surpassed Ty Wolf's performance of 8:03.55 from 1985. Joe McAsey also jumped into the top-10 list of an event, running 1:48.71 in the 800m, the ninth-best mark in school history.
