WALNUT, Calif. – The Illinois men's track and field team completed day two of the 64th annual Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday (April 18). Senior Aiden Ouimet finished his first decathlon of the 2024 outdoor season and broke his own school record with 7,794 points which placed him ninth in competition.
His highest finish of the decathlon came in the 1500m where he clocked a new personal-best time of 4:37.74. He also placed fifth in the pole vault when he cleared 4.70m (15-5). Additionally, Ouimet tossed the day's sixth-best javelin throw (55.66m (182-7)), crossed 10th in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.74 seconds and placed 15th in the discus with a heave of 40.86m (134-0).
Freshman Eleftherios Kontonikola placed eighth in the elite section of the javelin with a throw of 65.26m (214-1). Freshman Kyle Clark ran his first 3000m steeplechase as an Illini where he placed third in the collegiate division (9:17.46). Senior Will Merrick ran in the elite section of the 3000m steeplechase and finished in 18th place (9:10.94).

The Illinois track and field teams resume competition on Friday (April 19) for day three of the Mt. SAC Relays with field events starting at 11 a.m. and track events at 1 p.m. CT.
