• Competed in the 5,000m at the Big Ten Championships and placed sixth to score points for the Illini
• Clocked the third-fastest 5,000m time in school history (14:00.66) at the conference championships
• Recorded three top-three finishes in the 3,000m, including a first-place finish at the Husker Invitational
• Placed second in the mile at the Illini Open

Cross Country

• Fnished first or second for the Illini in every meet
• Earned all-region honors after finishing 14th overall at the NCAA Midwest Regional
• The top finisher for the Orange and Blue at the Big Ten Championships, finishing 23rd overall
• Was the number-two runner for Illinois at the Wisconsin adidas Invite, finishing in a time of 24:40
• Finished sixth overall at the Roy Griak Invite with a time of 24:57

2013

• Qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Round in the 3,000m steeplechase
• Scored points for the Illini at the Big Ten Championships, placing fifth
• Broke the 3,000m school record at the Big Ten/SEC Challenge, winning the title with a time of 8:16.71
• Set the ninth fastest 3,000m steeplechase time in Illinois history at the Auburn Tiger Classic, winning the event with a time of 8:54.48
• USTFCCCA All-Academic

Indoor

• Set the eighth fastest 3,000m time in Illini history at the Big Ten Championships, finishing with a time of 8:11.99 to place 13th overall
• Competed in the mile at the Meyo Invitational and the Illini Classic

Cross Country

• Led the Illini in every meet he competed in
• Qualified for the NCAA Championships after placing third at the NCAA Midwest Regional and earning All-Region Honors
• Placed sixth at the Big Ten Championships to earn first-team All-Big Ten honors
• Clocked a personal-best 8K time of 23:50 at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational, which is tied for the fourth-fastest 8K time in school history
• Placed sixth at the Notre Dame Invitational
• Won the Illini Challenge with a personal-best 6K time of 18:58

2012

Cross Country

• Qualified for the NCAA Championships, where he finished 64th and set a personal-best 10K time of 30:27
• Earned All-Region honors after finishing 13th overall at the NCAA Midwest Regional , recording a 10K time of 30:40
• Finished first for the Illini at the Big Ten Championships with a personal best 8K time of 24:06
• Received second-team All-Big Ten honors for ninth place finish at Big Ten Championships
• His time at the Big Ten Championships is 10th fastest 8K finish in school history
• In his Illinois debut, finished in the top-27 at the Notre Dame Invitational and second on the team with a five-mile time of 24:17
• Finished runner-up on the squad at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational, setting a career-best 8K time of 24:11
• Scored points for the Illini in each race he's competed in

At Graf Engelbert High School

• Placed second in the 3,000m steeplechase at the German Under-23 Championships in 2009
• In 2006, was runner-up in the 2,000m steeplechase at the German Youth Championships
• Finished third in 2010 at the German Under-23 Championships in the 10,000m

At Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School (MICDS)

• Finished third in the 3,200m at the Missouri State Championships in 2007
• Placed fourth in 2007 at the Missouri State Championships in the 1,600m

Personal

• Son of Harald and Berit Modler
• Has two siblings, Mayu and Moritz
• Received his bachelor degree in Aerospace Engineering and will be pursuing his masters degree at the University of Illinois
• Hobbies include playing sports, traveling and reading
