2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team 
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Two Illinois women's track and field athletes were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team, announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Junior Angela Bizzarri was named to the District 5 first team, while senior Jackie Ziegler received second team honors. As a first team honoree, Bizzarri is now eligible to receive Academic All-America honors.
Bizzarri is a six-time All-American between track and field and cross country, this season placing sixth at the 2008 NCAA Cross Country Championships and fourth in the 3,000m at the 2009 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. She has had an outstanding outdoor track and field season thus far, winning 5,000m titles at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships and Big Ten Championships and will head into the NCAA Outdoor Championships as the number one seed in the 5,000m. In the classroom, Bizzarri is a Molecular & Cellular Biology major with a cumulative GPA of 3.55. The junior has also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors four times between cross country and track and field.
Ziegler lettered on the track and field team for three seasons in the pole vault, most notably competing at the 2007 NCAA Mideast Regional Championships and tying the school record with a height of 12-6. She earned Academic All-Big Ten honors twice, graduating this spring with a degree in Community Health and a cumulative GPA of 3.87.
