The Fighting Illini celebrated Senior Day with a 4-3 win over Northwestern on Saturday, May 9, thanks to senior catcher Will Johannes' walkoff home run. The solo shot in the bottom of the ninth helped Illinois earn its fourth victory in a five-game win streak that dates back to May 3. He dazzled in both halves of the 9th inning, beginning with a crucial defensive out when he threw out a Wildcat runner attempting to steal second. In the first four games of the Illini's win streak, Johannes hit .417 (5-for-12) with a home run (9), two doubles (9), three RBI and three runs scored.
Johannes, from Mukwonago, Wis., is a senior majoring in Agricultural & Consumer Economics with a concentration in Agribusiness Markets and Management.
