OCALA, Fla.— Illinois swim finished day one of the CSCAA Championships on Thursday evening, competing in the 50 backstroke, 500 freestyle, 50 butterfly, 200 IM, 50 breaststroke, 50 freestyle, 400 medley relay, and the 200-freestyle relay. As a team, Illinois sits in 7th place of 46 schools, amassing 122 points through the first events.
In the morning preliminary session, Sophia Paduano swam a 24.96 to finish third and qualify for the A final. Teammate Chloe Diner also qualified to an A final in the 200 IM, swimming a 2:01.75.
A quartet of Illini earned spots in B finals, including Kayla Duran in the 50 breaststroke (28.84), Martina Cibulkova in the 50 butterfly (24.79), Liv Dorshorst in the 500 freestyle (4:54.16), and Sara Jass in the 200 IM (2:02.38). Cibulkova's prelims time of 24.79 in the 50 butterfly is the fourth-best mark in the event in program history.
In the 400 yard medley relay, the team of Michelle Kaner, Duran, Diner, and Maggie Adler, finished sixth, with a time of 3:40.48, the sixth-best time in program history.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Isabella Wilhelm, Adler, Bella Wojtowicz, and Cibulkova took 14th, swimming a 1:33.26.
Paduano finished fifth in the 50 back in 25.01, and Diner also finished fifth in the 200 IM, improving on her prelims time, swimming a 2:00.12.
