CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois completed the final day of its double-dual meet against Nebraska and Iowa on Saturday afternoon, falling to Nebraska, 194.5-177.5, and to Iowa, 193-179.
The Fighting Illini took home the first event of the morning, with Sophia Paduano, Kayla Duran, Chloe Diner, and Isabella Wilhelm winning the 200 medley relay in 1:43.42.
Paduano added another individual win in the 100 backstroke, leading the race from start to finish (57.24). Diner also took her second gold in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.10), with teammate Duran finishing exactly a second behind (1:04.10) to take silver.
Sara Jass walked away first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:18.86. Jass already holds the school record in the event, with a time of 2:12.90 that she posted earlier this season. Duran once again found the podium, taking bronze (2:20.28).
Later in the meet, Diner went toe to toe with Beatrix Tanko of Nebraska in the 100 butterfly, finishing just two hundredths of a second off the lead for silver (54.86). Diner later won the 200 IM in dominant fashion, nearly three seconds ahead of the next swimmer, notching her third event win of the day (2:01.79). Jass came home to finish the 200 IM in third (2:05.19).
A trio of Illinois divers competed on platform Saturday morning in Iowa City, Iowa. Freshman Amelia Semple led the way, taking fifth with a 219.60. She was followed closely behind by Bethany Mercer in sixth (200.95) and Carlie Rose in seventh (196.10).
