INDIANAPOLIS – The men's and women's track and field teams finished the first day of the Hoosier Horsepower Classic on Friday (Jan. 16) from the Fall Creek Pavilion.
Jordan Koskondy walked away the event winner in the weight throw, 22.02m (72-3), but her teammates Oluwatomilayo Akintunde and Faith Deering both improved their personal bests. Akintunde improved to 21.83m (71-7 1/2) which is the fourth-best mark and Deering improved to 18.92m (62-1) which is now the sixth-best mark in program history.
Siun Quinn made her Illini debut today in the high jump where she won on the program's ninth-best leap at 1.80m (5-10 3/4). Cody Johnston and Tadeas Placek each won their respective events, Johnston cleared 5.29m (17-4 1/4) in the pole vault while Placek sprinted 1:17.84 in the 600m.
Azariyah Bryant won the 200m finals (23.62) in addition to her win in her 60m heat to qualify to tomorrow's finals (7.47). On the men's side Jackson Gilbert won the 200m finals as well (21.53).
UP NEXT
The Orange and Blue track and field teams return to action tomorrow (Jan. 17) for the final day of the Hoosier Horsepower Classic. Field events begin at 8:45 a.m. and track events start at 9:30 a.m. CT.
