LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Fighting Illini men's golf program, ranked No. 12 in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches Poll, faces its second test of the early season Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 29-30, at the Windon Memorial Classic, hosted by Northwestern at Knollwood Club.
THE SETTING
The Windon Memorial Classic will be contested on the Par-72, 7,202-yard Knollwood Club in Lake Forest, Ill. Rated among the top courses in the state of Illinois, Knollwood Club's golf course was designed by the famed architect C.H. Alison in 1924 and opened the following year. The course has been upgraded at various times over the last 50 years, most recently in 2022. Knollwood served as the host site of the US Amateur Championship in 1956 and hosted the inaugural USGA Mid-Amateur Championships in 1981 and 1982. The club was also served as the backdrop for former Illini Dylan Meyer's win at the 2016 Western Amateur Championship.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
The 54-hole tournament will be played over two days with 36 holes set for Monday, followed by the final 18 on Tuesday. Monday will open with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT. Tuesday's finale will begin with tee times at 8 a.m. CT.
THE FIELD
The tournament field features 16 programs, highlighted by eight teams ranked or receiving votes in the coaches poll. The No. 12-ranked Illini are joined by No. 22 New Mexico, and six programs receiving votes: East Tennessee State, Indiana, host Northwestern, Notre Dame, Purdue, and SMU. The rest of the field includes Kansas, Marquette, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Oral Roberts, UC Davis, and USF.

ILLINI AT THE WINDON MEMORIAL CLASSIC
The Fighting Illini return to the Windon Memorial Classic for the second straight year. Last year, the Illini finished sixth in the event held at Conway Farms Golf Club. This year, the event will be played at Knollwood Club.
Senior Ryan Voois (T64), junior Max Herendeen (T15) and sophomore Trey Marrion (T25) all competed in last year's Windon Classic.
