HEERENVEEN, Netherlands – Illinois track and field decathlon signee, Luuk Pelkmans, earned a gold medal in the Netherlands U20 National Championships with a massive personal-best score of 8,016 points which would also be a program record by almost 400 points.
Additionally, his point total is the second-highest score for a Dutch U20 decathlete and the 20th-highest score all-time for a U20 decathlete in general. This 8,016 score would've won him the Big Ten Outdoor Championships gold by nearly 500 points and it would be the fourth-highest score in the nation for 2025 which would qualify him to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
