TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Fighting Illini women's golf ended the first round of the Florida State Match Up alone in first place after carding a team total of 287 (-1) today at Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
The Orange and Blue will enter tomorrow's second round just one stroke behind leaders and hosts Florida State. Four Illinois golfers will also enter tomorrow holding spots in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard.
Yurang Li and Lexanne Halama are both tied for second at 2-under (70). Starting on No. 10, Li posted a 37 (+1) on the back nine before going 3-under (33) with no bogeys on the front. Halama, also starting on No. 10, fired an even-par (36) back nine and followed it with a bogey-free 34 (-2) on the front, rolling in two birdies. Both golfers tallied four birdies during their rounds, which rank tied for fourth-most among the field.
Li's 3.70 (-3) scoring average on par 4s was tied for the lowest mark in the first round and Halama's 4.25 (-3) scoring average on par 5s was also tied for the lowest mark.
Victoria Zheng is tied for fifth after an opening round 71 (-1). Zheng carded a total of six birdies on the day, which is second-most among the field.
Anna Ritter is tied for 25th after her first round of 76 (+4) and Brielle Mapanao is tied for 53rd after a round of 80 (+8).
Erica Lee, competing individually, is tied for eighth after her round of 73 (+1).
Florida State's Mirabel Ting leads the tournament individually at 6-under (66).
The Fighting Illini will be back in action tomorrow morning, with second round tee times starting at 7:45 a.m. CT.
