DADE CITY, Fla. – Fighting Illini women's golf ended the first two rounds of the Spring Break Shootout alone in first place after carding a 36-hole team total of 578 (+11) today at the Lake Jovita Golf Club.
Illinois opened the day with a 10-over 294 before closing with a 1-over 285 to take the top spot on the leaderboard, with five golfers overall placed in the top 15 individually.
Anna Ritter leads the Orange and Blue, ending the day tied for third at 1-under (143). Ritter began the tournament with a 1-over 72 before closing her day with an even-par 71. The junior carded a total of seven birdies during the second round, including four-straight from No. 13 to No. 16. She ended the day 10 total birdies, which is the most among the field.
Victoria Zheng is sixth after rounds of 75 (+4) and 69 (-2). Zheng rolled home five birdies during the second round to help her move up 15 spots in the individual standings. The junior posted the lowest par 4 scoring average (-1, 3.94) on the first day of the event and her seven total birdies are tied for the second most.
Brielle Mapanao is tied for 11th following rounds of 76 (+5) and 72 (+1). Mapanao's scoring average of 4.63 (-5) on par 5s was tied for the lowest among the field on the first day.
Lexanne Halama is 14th after carding rounds of 75 (+4) and 73 (+2) and Yurang Li is tied for 48th after tallying rounds of 72 (+1) and 79 (+8).
Erica Lee, competing individually, is tied for 15th after rounds of 73 (+2) and 76 (+5).
St. John's Xuan Khue Minh Doan leads the tournament individually at 1-under (141).
The Fighting Illini will be back in action tomorrow morning, with the third and final round's shotgun start beginning at 7:45 a.m. CT.
