SARASOTA, Fla. – Fighting Illini women's golf ended the first two rounds of the Spartan Suncoast Invitational tied for sixth after carding a team total of 583 (+7) today at Palm Aire Country Club.
Anna Ritter paced the Illini, thanks to a career-best 3-under (69) in the first round, followed by a 73 (+1) to end the day tied for fourth. Ritter birdied four times in each round and her tournament total of eight is tied for fifth-most among the field.
Lexanne Halama ended the day tied for 16th after firing rounds of 73 (+1) and 72 (E). Halama posted a scoring average of 3.90 (-2) on par 4s, tied for the second-lowest mark among the field. The senior also tallied eight birdies, tied for the second-most in the tournament.
Brielle Mapanao is tied for 35th following back-to-back rounds of 74 (+2). Victoria Zheng is tied for 43rd following rounds of 74 (+2) and 75 (+3) and Yurang Li is tied for 55th after rounds of 78 (+6) and 74 (+2).
Illinois totaled 27 birdies over the 36 holes, tied for fourth-most among teams competing.
Oklahoma holds the team lead at 2-under (574) and Kentucky's Cathryn Brown has the individual lead at 7-under (137).
The Fighting Illini will be back in action tomorrow morning, with the third and final round's shotgun start beginning at 7:15 a.m. CT.
