CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The Illinois swim and dive team travels to Ames, Iowa to take on Iowa State in the first dual meet of the 2025 season on Friday-Saturday (Oct. 17-18).
The Orange and Blue return two of their individual Big Ten scorers from last season being senior Sara Jass and sophomore Kayla Duran. Duran was the team's second highest scorer with 15 points and Jass was the third highest with six points.
The Fighting Illini also return active individual school record holders: senior Liv Dorshorst owns both the 1000 freestyle (9:56.73) and 1650 freestyle (16:33.79) school marks, Duran owns both the 50 breaststroke (28.22) and 100 breaststroke (1:00.39), Chloe Diner in the 200 IM (1:58.32) and Jass in the 400 IM (4:12.40). The incoming freshman are Emma Schumacher, Hailey Vlcek, Audrey Cavaliere and Bella Wojtowicz. The Illini return four divers from last season: Elleka Boeres, Elle Crisostomo, Matilda Garcia and Bethany Mercer.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Iowa State wrapped up its 2024-25 campaign at the Big 12 Championships (Feb. 25–Mar. 1), finishing 10th overall with 397 points. The Cyclones return several key contributors from that squad, including sophomore Anja Peck, who placed 12th in the 200 breaststroke (2:13.82), and sophomore Grace Swoboda, who made an impact as a freshman in the breaststroke events. Senior Corinne Guist returns to lead the distance group.
On the diving side, the Cyclones are led by seniors Ally Blumenfeld and Kate Mitchell, both of whom scored at the Big 12 Championships last season. Iowa State also welcomes freshmen Iona Moffat and Jade Hazes who will look to make an immediate impact on the boards. With both squads returning strong upperclassmen cores and promising newcomers, this dual is expected to provide an early-season test of depth and consistency across all events.
